Chapter III

Class

33. You must attend EVERY single class.

Even if you are tired, sick, hungover or running late,
you MUST go to class.
Every class. Don't think it is OK to skip one. It isn't. The one you skip will cover material you will be tested on and you might miss a question because of having missed that one class, and it might be the difference in an “A” on a test, and a “B+.” A person who is determined to graduate magna cum laude, or with other honors, should never, ever miss a class. Period.

If there is an earthquake, or you are run over by a bus and have to miss a class, make damn sure you get good notes from somebody. Borrow the notebook of somebody you know is a good student and make copies of their notes from the class you missed. Tell them you will be glad to let them borrow your notebook if they miss a class.

Talk to your professor and make sure you know what was covered the day you missed.

I just can't stress this strongly enough. Don't miss class, ever, unless you have a life-threatening experience, then talk to the professor, as well as borrow the notes for the missed class as quickly as you can.

For less motivated students, know that one can almost do nothing more than just go to every class and take notes, and they will pass in college. Almost.

For highly motivated students, such as those who plan to graduate with honors, class is essential, but only part of an exciting, multi-faceted, constantly stimulating experience. That experience will result in knowledge, greatly increased capabilities such as for research and analysis, and in brainpower itself.

Knowledge truly is power, and the more knowledge one has, the more power one has, as well as confidence, potential for achievement of life's goals, and happiness.

34. You MUST show up for class on time.

Actually, one should be there a few minutes early to settle in, pull out a notebook, and get ready to start taking notes.

It is inexcusable to show up late on a regular basis for a class, and professors hate it. So do bosses, friends, and everybody else. It is a disruption for a professor. When class is supposed to start, it is suppose to start right then. Not later. People who show up late for class look slack, like they are so stupid they can't figure out how to get some place on time. Who would want to hire that person!

Now, DO go to class under ALL circumstances. Never skip a class because you are running late, no matter what the reason. It is absolutely critical to go to every single class. If you are late, just apologize to the professor on the way in, apologize again after class, and don't do it again.
